INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 tbsp neem flowers (fresh or dried)

  • 1 medium tomato, chopped

  • 1 small ball of tamarind, soaked in ½ cup waterBloom Powder - Neem

  • 1 tsp black pepper, crushed

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed (optional)

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • 5–6 curry leaves

  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil

  • 2 cups water

  • Salt, to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish

METHOD OF PREPARATION:

Step 1: Roast the Neem Flowers

  • Heat ghee or oil in a pan.

  • Add the neem flowers and roast them until they turn golden brown and aromatic.

  • Remove from the pan and set aside. This step reduces bitterness and brings out their unique flavor.

Step 2: Temper the Spices

  • In the same pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

  • Add cumin seeds, curry leaves, and crushed garlic (if using).

  • Sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.

Step 3: Cook the Tomato Base

  • Add the chopped tomato to the pan.

  • Sprinkle in turmeric, crushed black pepper, and salt.

  • Cook until the tomatoes soften and become pulpy, releasing their juices.

Step 4: Add Tamarind & Water

  • Squeeze and strain the tamarind pulp if needed.

  • Pour in the tamarind water along with 2 cups of plain water.

  • Stir well and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 5: Finish with Neem Flowers

  • Add the roasted neem flowers to the simmering rasam.

  • Give it one last gentle stir and turn off the heat.

Step 6: Garnish & Serve

  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

  • Serve hot with steamed rice or enjoy as a light, healing broth.
